NEWSFLASH : Our Chumphon kite center is open

Chumphon kiteboarding/kitesurfing coastal area is our latest discovery. Off the beaten track this is a beautiful unspoiled area on the east coast of Thailand about 450 kilometers south of Bangkok.

Due to it's geographical position it has the best wind conditions in Thailand during both the South West AND the north east monsoons. Just check out a weather map or get actual wind readings and weather conditions here and you will see that this area often has wind when other places don't.

OUR CHUMPHON KITESURFING SPOTS:

1. Tung Wa Laen Beach. (Our Base)

Kitesurf away from right in front of your bungalow with a perfect side shore wind and a beautiful beach. We are based at the north end of this beach at "sea beach bungalows resort". Tung Wa Laen beach is a 15 minute drive from the main town of Chumphon.

2. The Lagoon. (Our teaching spot: November, December and January)

Just around the corner from Tung Wa Laen Beach is a perfect spot for learning. There are huge areas of shallow flat water where you can stand everywhere.

3. Thung Makam Noi Bay - our teaching spot May, June, July and August. A 20 minute drive from our base at Tung Wa Laen Beach.

PLEASE NOTE
In Thailand from May to September it's the low season,that means that there can be rain during this time.It also means that the wind can be unpredictable, it is like that everywhere in Asia at this time of the year.The wind comes from storms out on the ocean and these are totally unpredictable.

* PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE THE ONLY SCHOOL THAT MAKES THE EFFORT TO TAKE OUR STUDENTS TO THE LAGOON AND BO MAU WHERE THE LEARNING CONDITIONS ARE OPTIMAL.

WIND

SUN OR RAIN?

The rainy months : May, September and October.

Occasional short showers : June, July and August. 

WARNING

In November and December the weather is very pleasantly cool and sunny around the Chumphon area, further down south (about 200 kilometers south of Chumphon) that is from Surat Thani downwards there is usually a lot of rain at this time of the year.

Some unscrupulous travel agencies will tell you there is rain in Chumphon too so that they can send you to another destination for which they get commission.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Sight Seeing
The coastal area around Chumphon is very scenic, small very quiet roads wind past coconut tree plantations, jungle, small scenic bays, fishing villages and offshore islands. The people in the area have not been spoiled by tourism and are very friendly and welcoming.

Snorkeling and Diving trips.
There are several offshore islands which offer world class reefs, there are regular sightings of whale sharks. See Chumphon Diving for more info.

Chumphon town
Chumphon town is an interesting small town with all the things that you can expect from a town ie a shopping centre, travel agencies, book shops, nightlife and there is also a very good night market with a big variety of Thai food and fruit every night. It's only a 15 minute drive from Tung Wa Laen beach. 

Wave surfing (November to January)
Stand Up Paddle Surfing lessons or board rental.
Big game fishing trips.
Canoeing trips.
Canoe sailing.
Koh Tao Island.

Chumphon is the departure point for boats going to this world famous island. From Koh Tao you can continue onwards with island hopping to Koh Phangan and Koh Samui.

Night Life
Tung Wa Laen has several fun beach bars, some with live music. In nearby Chumhpon town there is the famous "Papa 2000" disco night club with live music and dancing.

ACCOMMODATION

At Tung Wa Laen Beach there are bungalows right by the beach for prices between 300 and 2200 baht. For longer stays discounts are given.

Low to middle range price accomodation

Sea Beach Bungalows (Our Base)
At the northern end of Tung Wa Laen Beach this small friendly resort has bungalows with airconditioning, hot water and t.v for 600 baht a night, their cheaper bungalows go for 300 baht a night.

Noi Na Bungalows
Also at the north end of Tung Wa Laen Beach ,these bungalows are very nice and in very good condition and are probably the best deal on the beach, they have cable t.v and hot water. Bungalows go for 300 baht a night.

Middle to high range price accomodation

Tawan Resort
They have very nice comfortable rooms with t.v,wi fi, aircon and hot water,they go for 700 baht a night. They are located towards the north end of the beach. 

Chuan Phun Lodge
A nice small hotel towards the middle of the beach with comfortable rooms with a good internet connection and wi fi,the sea view rooms go for 850 baht a night,the other rooms 700 baht.

The Cabana Resort
At the southern end of Tung Wa Laen Beach is the Cabana resort, this is a 2 star resort,their rooms and bungalows go between 1200 and 2200 baht, they have comfortable rooms with satelite t.v, airconditioning and hot water, they also have a swimming pool. Every morning they have a big buffet breakfast open to everybody for 150 baht per person. You can book it online here: Chumphon Cabana

GETTING THERE AND AWAY

Chumphon is on the east coast of Thailand about 450 kilometres south of Bangkok. Rumour has it that Chumphon airport will be opening again soon. In the meantime you can get to Chumphon in the following ways:

1) You can fly to Surat Thani (35 minutes) and then take a taxi or minivan to Chumphon. It's a 2 hour drive from Surat Thani to Chumphon. Minivans go every hour from town.

2) If you are in Bangkok you can take the train or bus, travelling time is approximately 7 and a half hours. Thailand has a good bus system, from anywhere in Thailand you can reach Chumphon quite easily.

If you are in Bangkok you can take a bus to Chumphon from the south bus station, buses leave at 9.00a.m, 11.30a.m, 14.00 p.m and 21.30 p.m. The company's name is CHOKE ANAN tel: 077-511480 and 077-511757.

You can also take buses from Kao San road with the following companies: Lomprayah, Sea Tran and Songserm. 

3) There are fast boats going from Koh Samui via Koh Phang Ngan and Koh Tao to Chumphon, this way you can also check out some of these islands.

4) You can fly from Bangkok to Ranong, there are daily flights, flight time is approximately 25 minutes, by road it takes 2 hours from Ranong to Chumphon. 

Once you are in Chumphon just tell the tuk tuk or taxi driver to go to Tung Wa Laen beach.

GETTING AROUND

Motorcycle taxis around town cost a flat 10 baht per trip. Songthaews {small pick up buses} cost 20 baht to Thung wa laen beach. You can rent motorbikes for 200 baht a day and cars for 1000 baht a day.

Our base in Chumphon is at THE NORTH END OF TUNG WA LAEN BEACH we are there at a bungalow resort called "Sea Beach Bungalows". Tung Wa Laen beach is about a 15 minute drive from Chumphon town, just ask any taxi driver, he will know where it is.
