Day 1 of Discovery
This is a fun 3 hour lesson that takes place on land (the beach),at the end of this lesson you will have a good idea of what kitesurfing is all about.
We start with a short theory lesson which shows that by putting the kite in different positions you can control it's power, safety aspects are covered.
We then fly a small training kite which is a special small kite for usage on land, the student first learns to fly this kite and feel comfortable with it,we go at the pace our students feel comfortable with.
We then go over what we discussed in the theory lesson,we fly the kite to the different positions we talked about in the theory lesson.Safety aspects are discussed.
With the training kite the student then learns to do all the manoevres that he/she will be doing later on in the course with a tube kite,a tube kite is a kite with inflatable air tubes in it which is used by kitesurfers, professionals and beginners alike, in the water,we will be using a tube kite on day 2.
After having finished doing the training kite exercises the student is then shown how to set up a tube kite so that for the next day of the course we can go straight into the water with this kite.Safety aspects are discussed.
Day 2 Body drag and other exercises.
We go into the water with a tube kite, with this kite we do the same manoevres as we did on the first day of the course with the training kite, also we will for example be doing what's called a body drag whereby you are moving the kite up and down and letting the kite pull you along through the water, good fun but make sure your shorts are fastened tight, safety aspects are covered, the student is shown how to relaunch the kite from the water.
During our lessons the teacher demonstrates each exercise beforehand and is with the students at all times, this is the advantage of shallow water!,the teacher can be standing next to the student almost all the time.
During the last part of the day 2 lesson most students are already able to ride a bit.
Day 3 .Riding the board.
We go onto the water and go over our previous day's exercises and fine tune some things.Students receive further tips on how to get onto the board and then how to ride it,safety issues are again discussed. We practise and fine tune some more, students learn how to ride upwind. How to do a self rescue is shown.
At the end of a 3 day course a student will feel confident to go out on his/her own.Students will be riding and will know all necessary safety aspects and will also know a lot about the different kinds of equipment available and what kind and sizes of kites and boards are suitable for them.We also give our students lots of tips on how to take care of their equipment to make it last long.
