Important weather information for Thailand
Please note that wind information websites like windguru.com and windfinder.com receive their wind information for Thailand from Thai weather stations which are often far inland situated between buildings, trees, hills etc and thus give totally wrong wind readings.
For example in Chumphon the wind can be blowing 18 to 20 knots. On windfinder.com the WEATHER REPORT section will say 6 knots. Then at the same time their FORECAST SECTION (this information is not from a Thai weather station), shows 20 knots.
HOW TO GO TO THE forecast section TO SEE THE WEATHER MAP ON WINDFINDER.COM
1. Go to www.windfinder.com
On their homepage at the top you have the following words:
sms desktop tools weather reports forecasts waves/ocean webcams etc........
2. Click on "forecasts".
A weather map of Europe will appear, next to it on the left you can choose maps of other countries you wish to see.
3. Get the Thailand map.
A map of South East Asia appears with wind arrows and different colours on it, the green, yellow and red areas show where it's especially windy. Blue means not so much wind, when you see a green, yellow or red area off the coast of Chumphon it means Chumphon coastal area will have good wind. On this page they also explain how to read the wind arrows.
Next to the map on the left it says "animation".
4. Click on animation, wait for a short while and then get the 5 day forcast map, you can see how the wind develops day by day this way. The 2 day forecast is usually quite accurate after that less so.
